Introduction
Ministry of Agriculture Training Institute Ukiriguru (MATIU) is the oldest agricultural institute in Tanzania. It started training formal long-term courses January 1939 involving especially extensionist. It is government institution under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in the Department of Training Institutes. It is oriented at training agricultural technicians and farmers on improved agriculture and community development strategies; also, it provides consultancy and advisory services on related discipline.
Location
of the Institute
MATIU is situated on about 275 hectares of land in
Missungwi District in Mwanza Region. It lies along latitude 2o 42’S
and longitude 30o1’ E at an altitude 1198m. a.s.l. along the foot of
the hills of Ukiriguru and Nyamule. It is 29 km from Mwanza city centre and 1.6
km East of the Mwanza – Shinyanga highway. MATIU shares a common border with
the Lake Zone Research and Development institute Ukiriguru (LZARDI).
